SATEB-a semajnfino

'PS'

The other group sharing the college with SATEB were the Workers' Education Association poetry writing course.

As a result of a supposed 'Esperanto plot to use all the jam', the following poem was handed to Anne Johnson and it provoked Paul Gubbins to write a suitable response on behalf of Esperanto.

Now read on…

A poetical challenge…

There is no Esperanto jam this morning,
The bread is Sunday-plain and unadorned.
Don't ask for it — this is a warning!
All Esperanto jam-fans have been warned.

My toast is looking rather sad and lonely
But I am going to try it all the same.
Perhaps I'll put some butter on it only —
And if I choke Esperanto is to blame.

… and an Esperanto reply

We spread our Esperanto jam
Through many lands and climes;
We find it suits linguistic taste
In these divided times
When man still fails to speak to man
(For man read woman, too),
When common tongue is lacking still
Then free speech is taboo.
So if the jam you failed to find
On us don't be too tough:
We try to spread it everywhere
So all will have enough!
